FINANCE is able to assist U.K. importers with introductions to Trade Finance
Houses. There is a group of about half a dozen such trade finance companies
specialising in financing imports against firm orders from first class
buyers. Typically, it may be possible to arrange for a letter of credit
to be opened in favour of a trading company's overseas supplier secured
by an assignment of the customer's sale contract to the end buyer.
Usually, Trade Finance Houses
are linked to international factoring companies, and will provide a comprehensive
package, covering pre-import finance, and discounting of the end receivable.
By its nature this is a somewhat
exotic, and consequently expensive, form of finance. It is therefore only
suitable for products with good profit margins, rather than for "commodities".
